Land Acknowledgement

We at Whim W’Him acknowledge that we are on the unceded ancestral lands of the Duwamish People. A people that are still here, continuing to honor and bring to light their ancestral heritage. We stand to learn from the Duwamish as stewards of this area and to act in solidarity with them to keep this land alive and thriving. We could not call this city home without the Duwamish Tribe.

FOUNDER & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Dear Whimmers,

In this spirit of collective nurturing I welcome you to winter ’24.

Amid our tumultuous times, where myriad distractions vie for our attention, there exists a profound urgency to direct our focus toward the essence that truly matters—the elements that foster our collective growth and elevate us as a society.  Amidst the loud chaos, the act of sharing an evening of contemporary dance becomes a shared ritual, a poignant celebration of the human spirit.  Through the expressive creations of our artists, we bear witness to narratives that transcend boundaries, weaving a tapestry of stories that reflect the intricate threads of our shared humanity. In these ephemeral live performance moments, we realize the transformative potential that resides within each of us. Like a delicate seed of empathy, when nurtured with the waters of creativity, it sprouts into a force capable of fostering profound change.

As we dance through our existence, let us remember that within the smallest acts of empathy and creative expression lies the potential for a blossoming society—a society that thrives on the resilient beauty of the human spirit.

For 14 years, Whim W’Him has consistently been Seattle’s home for creativity and innovation in contemporary dance, captivating audiences with relevant performances that push the boundaries of movement and expression. 2023 brought the most exciting year yet, with new creations from renowned choreographers from around the world, our Summer Pop Ups that saw close to a thousand joining us at parks all over the city. And in the best development of an intentional dream, the purchase and renovation of the All Saints Church in beautiful Queen Anne, now reborn as the Whim W’Him Contemporary Dance Center.

One might expect me to earnestly ask for financial support to alleviate the strains of our move as we are still in need of funds for it. However, my predominant inclination is an earnest desire to articulate profound gratitude through words imbued with profound meaning. But language falls short in capturing the depth of my emotions regarding the overwhelming love, support, and encouragement bestowed upon Whim W’Him by the community. With heartfelt humility, fueled by passion, some candor included, I thank you!
